Cool Daddio on the Red Patio

"Brewers ... We might be able to beat them, right?"
Even accepting an invitation to attend a ballgame requires a bit of
ROI analysis. In the end, Dad took the gamble of his time and went
with me to watch the opening salvo in the Nats' four game battle with
the Brewers and - like many of his calculations on risky investments,
this one paid good dividends.
We watched the homeboys hold eight hits to just one run. More
incredibly, we watched DC turn just three hits into five runs. Nice
trick. It required a lot more patience at the plate, improved
fielding, and a lot more strikes thrown by our pitching staff.
When the rookie Sanches toddled out to pitch the 6th in a one-run
game, one TNP staffer who will remain unnamed cynically noted, "this
may be where it all falls apart."
BOTCHED THAT PREDICTION!
Sanches took 19 pitches to bury the inning - and 15 of those were
strikes.
President Pete stopped by for a friendly hello and put in a good word
for Elijah Dukes who is struggling mightily with the bat-thingy. Dukes
promptly thanked Pete by hurting himself and leaving the game.
