I have a technical, mechanical question: Are those rods forever, or will she have to change them out if she gets two feet taller? It's probably irrelevant since we're a squat and husky breed, but just wondering.
Whew! Happy to hear that all is well. You're right, the rough road home will have some potholes, but Ro* has proven her mettle. We know it's been very rough for Mom & Dad as well. We're cheering for the three of you to be home soon. Love the photo, it's a keeper. Love, Grammagramps.
Kevin- The rods become part of her spine. Between 8 am and 1 pm she probably gained 3 inches in height. That is what they are estimating after straightening her 107 degree thoracic curve. Looking at her while she lays in bed, she looks much taller and thinner. The Orthopedic Doc says she has finished most of her torso growth. Any additional growth will be in her arms and legs. I have a great picture of her post op xray but I don't know how to post it. I have sent it to Keith. Maybe he will get it on the blog in the morning.
+3"?! That's more than expected, yes? Uppsey daisey, little flower. Best of luck to you all and congratulations. It may have seemed like a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. But I say the sea is lovely this time of year. Enjoy it, Ro*, as you wiggle your ever-distant toes in the sand. Thinking of your better future, -Harvie
It IS a long walk home, but before that a bumpy ride to the Acute Care unit! Woo-hoo!!!( As my Emily says.) Art line is out. Catheter is out (for the moment). She was supposed to be able to get up today, but yesterday's brace does not fit today so they are keeping her in bed. Currently waiting to hear the next step in that saga. So there you have it, other than the fever is gone, the bp is good, pain is under control and such like.
