Torre Reform

~~~
"Don't worry about this one. If you miss it, we lose." -Caddyshack
"His job is on the line. I think we're paying him a lot of money.
He's the highest-paid manager in baseball,
so I don't think we'd
take him back if we don't win this series." -George Steinbrenner
When Joe Torre gets the official bitch slap that has been promised by his felon owner,
the Yankees will have chucked into the dumpster a manager like no other. Sure, there are managers who make better decisions, think deeper into the game, and inspire players more, but not under conditions anything like New York. Joe Torre did more than any other manager working today could have. He worked with overpaid, spoiled, elderly athletes.
He worked under the public humiliation heaped-on by Steinbrenner. Only God and Billy Martin have any idea how the private conversations went - and they aren't talking; probably because they're fighting.
After winning the World Series four times, going into a dozen post seasons, and steering his team to an amazing comeback in the 2007 regular season, Joe Torre won't be spending much time in the unemployment line; that is, unless his taste for the game has been forever spoiled by the taste of money being jammed down his throat.
He'd make a fine Secretary of State. Think how different the world would
be with
a baseball mind in that job, rather than a football fan. I'm hoping
he writes a book,
or manages the D-Rays and spanks the Yankees
in 2008.
Whatever happens,
Joe's life is about to get better.
Well said sir.
Somewhere, ghouls under the command of a cloaked Steinbrenner, are digging up the grave of Billy Martin.
Oh yes, he's that crazy.
